Teesdale's Five a Day!

Students in Key Stage 3 are challenged to read 5 pages a day of our half-term's novel 'The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe'. If you begin reading on the 11th November, you will be finished by Christmas break! The online copy will be available on Student POD here.

Department for Education shows that reading daily is incredibly important for:

Reading attainment and writing ability;

• Text comprehension and grammar;

• Breadth of vocabulary;

• Positive reading attitudes;

• Greater self-confidence as a reader;

• Pleasure in reading in later life;

• General knowledge;

• A better understanding of other cultures;

• Community participation; and

• A greater insight into human nature and decision-making.

We are also running a competition - once students have completed the novel, they can write a detailed review. There will be £20 book vouchers for the winner from each year group (7-9) (including a Kindle for the overall winner). Submit entries to Mrs Heaton by Tuesday 7th January.
